Veil, or Not? Whether or not you wear a veil is, again, a personal choice for brides these days -- some brides just don't feel like, well, a bride if they don't have a veil to top off their wedding day ensemble, but sometimes its mom or other family members who would like to see you in a veil more than you would! Fortunately, there's a middle ground -- lots of modern brides opt to wear a veil for the ceremony (and some pictures) and then swap the veil out for a pretty hair accessory for the reception.

Complementing the Dress. As a bride your main focus has probably been on picking the dress -- or, more accurately, THE dress -- for your wedding day, but once that part is taken care of many brides are at a loss as to what veil and/or headpiece actually goes with their beautiful wedding gown.

Some things to consider: Does your dress have a detailed/intricate/just plain beautiful back? If so, consider a shorter or single-layer veil so that you won't be obscuring that beautiful back! Is your dress (and your wedding) ultra-formal? We're seeing resurgence in the popularity of the cathedral length veil -- it's a timeless choice. Is your dress super-detailed? A lot of bling on the dress might call for a more simple veil -- remember, you want to make sure your guests see your beauty shining through, not JUST what you're wearing!

Hairstyle Decisions. If you're set on wearing your hair in a particular way for your wedding day (maybe he likes to see your hair down, or you've always had your heart set on an up do), then keep that style in mind when selecting a headpiece and/or veil. A glittering crystal clip or comb looks gorgeous accenting a twisted up do or a half-up half-down hairstyle, and if your hair will be pulled back, sometimes an under-veil as opposed to a traditional top-of-the-head placement is the perfect choice. If you're unsure, consult your hairstylist for suggestions and plan accordingly.
