Most full-length gown slips are about 40" long from the waist. Petite full-length gown slips are 2" shorter and are about 38'' long from the waist.
Cocktail or Tea-length slips are about 30-31" long from the waist. Petite cocktail or tea-length gown slips are 2" shorter and are about 29" long from the waist.
Below-the-Knee-length slips are about 25" long from the waist. Petite full-length gown slips are 2" shorter and are about 23" long from the waist.
The fullness of your slip can also help shorten a gown that is just a bit too long. A fuller slip will hold the gown out more, hence shortening the gown. A less-full slip will allow the gown to hang longer.
If you need your slip a bit fuller, there's an easy trick. Turn your slip inside out and turn on the tv. Find a seam so you can easily remember your starting point. Then work your way around the crinoline (the stiff netting), tugging the netting gently in about 4 inch segments. When you are finished, do not fold or roll your slip. Just stand it in an out of the way corner and it will stay extra full for you. Unlike your bridal gown, you will probably wear your "normal size" in slips. Even so, there are quite a variety of sizing options. The chart below will help you determine the proper size.
